What is spinal decompression?

Spinal decompression is a non-invasive and natural way to address common causes of back pain. Many ailments such as herniated or bulging discs, sciatica, and general neck and back pain are a result of pressure on different areas of the back.

In spinal decompression, a chiropractic care professional uses special equipment to gently stretch and manipulate the positioning of the back, allowing the pressure to be removed and the pain to subside.

Am I a candidate for spinal decompression?

At FIX Medical Group, we treat each patient with a holistic approach and sometimes using spinal decompression along with other chiropractic care can produce great results. Typically people suffering from disc issues or sciatica are candidates for spinal decompression, but our patients each receive a customized care plan.

If you are curious about spinal decompression and want to learn more about this potentially life-changing technique, we will be happy to answer any questions and discuss the cause of your specific pain to determine if it’s a good fit for your situation.

What happens during spinal decompression?

For those who are good candidates for spinal decompression, it has several positive aspects. Healing can be facilitated through this process because of the reduced inflammation as a result of the procedure and it has also been known to speed up the healing process of back issues. People also reported a greater range of motion and less pain after undergoing spinal decompression.

Spinal decompression is administered by a trained medical professional using special equipment. When performing this technique, the chiropractic care professional will position the patient face down on a special table which is used just for spinal decompression.

The table is made to move the body at the hips and it gently stretches and moves the patient’s lower half, increasing the amount of force little by little as the session goes on. These sessions can last up to an hour, and the entire time the chiropractic care professional is communicating with the patient to determine their level of pain and comfort with the procedure.

Many patients experience immediate relief, with most feeling a great deal of progress after about five sessions.

Our goal is to use every tool at our disposal to treat your ailments effectively, and if you are a good candidate for spinal decompression then we can use this technique along with our other services to get you back to pursuing your passions and living comfortably.
