What are PRP injections?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, and this treatment uses this plasma to treat specific conditions. PRP injections are a form of regenerative medicine, meaning they use a healthy part of a person’s body to help another part heal. In the body, platelets are used to help cells grow, repair themselves and help blood clot.

In PRP injections, platelets are removed from the patient’s blood and then injected back into the patient at the problem area. Since these cells are specialized in healing and triggering the body to repair damaged tissues and cells, these treatments are especially effective when administered correctly.

What are some of the uses for PRP injections?

Since platelets can kick-start the healing process for many bodily systems, PRP injections have several uses for people who are recovering from injury or suffering from skin issues.

People who have been in accidents or injured themselves by a fall or participating in athletic events can benefit from PRP injections. Injuries such as muscle tears or strains, tendinitis and other issues where muscle and/or tissues need to be repaired can heal faster with the help of PRP injections.

In addition to helping the body heal injuries faster, PRP injections can address certain skin and hair issues. Since these injections produce cell growth and regeneration, platelets can be injected into the scalp to encourage hair growth and stop hair loss and promote thicker hair growth. Also, if a person has scarring or acne, PRP injections can promote healing in skin cells to improve the appearance of these common skin issues.

What happens during PRP injections?

During the PRP injection process, a member of our team will explain the process to you fully before moving forward. Typically, PRP injections are part of an entire plan created exclusively for you with your conditions and health goals in mind.

PRP injections begin by taking a small amount of blood from a patient and putting the blood into a centrifuge, a machine that spins the blood rapidly to separate and removes the platelets. From there, the platelets are injected into the problem area to promote cell and tissue growth.

When administered by a professional, the potential side effects of this treatment are few and it is often preferred as a minimally-invasive option instead of surgical procedures.

Our team can help create a plan to help you live comfortably. If you’re ready to take control of your health and live pain-free, give us a call or book a consultation online today.
